The founders
Built by two families,
a continent apart.
Istanbul Authentic Bazaar began in Sydney in 2016 as a family business — a single store in Newtown and one simple idea.
That the warmth and craft of the Turkish bazaar belonged in Australian homes. From the first day we filled our shelves with the things we loved — hand-cut mosaic lamps that scatter colour across a wall, soft Turkish cotton towels, hand-glazed ceramics, textiles, and the watchful evil eye kept for good fortune.
What began with one carefully chosen room of stock has grown into a business that reaches homes right across the country.
We've gone from a single Newtown shopfront to multiple stores, seasonal kiosks and a busy online home — but the way we choose every piece hasn't changed. Today we run around eight stores through the year, and as Christmas comes round we open close to forty more kiosks in shopping centres around the country — nearly fifty places where you might come across us, and, we hope, find something that feels like it was made for your home.
Since we opened, more than half a million customers have shopped with us. That number means a great deal to us. It isn't simply a target met; it's half a million homes that trusted us with a little of their everyday — and it's the reason we keep looking for better pieces and better ways to serve.
